I'm studying abroad in Rome, Italy, the fall of this year and don't really know the language past the basics (my name is, hello, good-bye, please, thanks, etc.). What program is out there - that is compatible with mac's - that is inexpensive and effective? I know Rosetta Stone is supposed to be great, but it is way expensive.

I want to learn Italian very badly. I have looked at several websites, and I do find good information, but it is all out of order, I have no idea where to start. I am jumping from phrases, to alphabet, to pronounciation. It is very confusing as I have not found a very organized website that will truly help me. I was wondering how did you learn to speak Italian? And are there any books that are good? Like for example: Italian for Dummies?

I want to learn to speak Italian. My plan is to graduate high school, get my bachelors degree, go to southern Italy for the Peace Corps, come back to the U.S, get my masters, and then go back to Italy to be an english teacher on an Italian military base. Obviously, it would be easier if I could speak Italian. I looked at Rosetta Stone, but it's really expensive. What is a cheaper way to learn? Thanks!!!
